Prince William hosted an event in London attended by global business leaders and tech moguls and offered some advice to CEOs. Platform leaders have pledged to end wildlife trafficking on their platforms. Speaking about environmental issues, Prince William called for reversing the planet’s environmental problems, urging CEOs to “be the leader you want to be when you grow up”.
At the launch of London Climate Action Week, the Prince of Wales convened a forum of big tech moguls, including Google, Meta, TikTok, Amazon, Alibaba, Baidu, eBay, Etsy and Pinterest, to announce their commitment to end wildlife trafficking on their platforms for the first time. Speaking on behalf of the Royal Trust’s Wildlife Alliance, William spoke of his optimism for the future but also said more needed to be done to help tackle climate change and wildlife degradation.
The event took place at the Unframed exhibition near Marble Arch. The future king was joined by actors and environmentalists Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Prince William has told global business leaders to be “more ambitious and bold” in their actions to help the environment and “be the leader you want to be when you grow up”.
Asked by host June Sarpong what the argument CEOs should be making to their boards, William replied: “It’s a tricky topic, there’s a number of arguments they need to make. But I think one particular aspect is the idea that it will make your job easier.”
At the Earthshot Prize awards, the prince praised leading innovators who gave him optimism for the future.
At a gathering of leading environmentalists and tech moguls in London, the Prince of Wales said his planet-saving solutions “keep my environmental concerns at bay” and “help me sleep at night”.
Speaking to company bosses, he said: “You have the power to influence, your voice matters in your business, your direction matters and your leadership matters more than anything else here.
“Many of you could be more ambitious and courageous in what you do for the planet and the environment.”
He added: “Be the leader you want to be when you grow up, not the person you are in business now.
“Tap into who you were as a child and what you wanted to see in the world, and bring those values to light as a CEO.
“More specifically, we are seeing such a shift in technology and innovation that please fully embrace it.”
