Earthquake kills at least six in Bangladesh

At least six people died and dozens were injured in the 5.5 magnitude earthquake that shook the center of Bangladesh.

Buildings in the country’s capital, Dhaka, shook in the earthquake on Friday morning and panicked residents took to the streets.

The epicenter of the earthquake is in Ghorashal district in Narsingdi district, about 25 kilometers from Dhaka.

The US Geological Survey said it had a depth of 10 km.

Dhaka-based DBC Television reported that at least six people died in Bangladesh’s capital; Three people and three pedestrians whose railings fell on them after the roof and wall of a building collapsed in Dhaka.

Although northern and southeastern Bangladesh are seismically active areas due to interactions between the Indian and Eurasian plates, the central region of the country is less active, according to the USGS.
