Edelweiss completes sale of 10% stake in asset management business to WestBridge

Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd has completed the transfer of a 10% stake in its asset management business to global investment company WestBridge Capital.
This is part of a broader deal under which WestBridge is set to acquire up to a 15% stake in Edelweiss Asset Management Ltd. ₹450 crore.
The transaction involved transfer of shares in Edelweiss Asset Management to WestBridge subsidiaries, including Setu AIF Trust, Konark Trust and MMPL Trust, according to a regulatory filing.
Completion of the sale followed a regulatory process that included a 15-day exit window that concluded on December 2 for investors of Edelweiss Mutual Fund and Altiva Specialized Investment Fund.
WestBridge has over $7 billion in assets under management, spanning various investment management companies and investment funds operating both in India and abroad.
Edelweiss Financial transferred 10% of the shares of Edelweiss Asset Management and Edelweiss Trusteeship Co. to Westbridge subsidiaries on December 17, and the remaining up to 5% will be transferred to the buyers as per the agreements made, the Rashesh Shah-led firm said in the filing.
India’s competition watchdog approved the deal on October 21, while the market regulator gave its approval on November 12. The entire transaction is expected to be completed by March 2026, Edelweiss said.
The deal, first announced in August, gives the asset management firm approximately ₹3,000 crore. It valued the business at 57 times its fiscal 2025 profit-to-earnings ratio. ₹This is in line with industry benchmarks of 30-60 times, Edelweiss said.
