Edinburgh Airport chaos as British Airways flight issues Squawk 7700 emergency | UK | News

British Airways’ flight to Heathrow Airport declared a “general emergency” immediately after leaving Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and is now parked on the runway, halting other flights from landing. Flight BA1443 was scheduled to leave Scotland at 11am on Monday, December 8, but departed just over 15 minutes late, according to flight tracking site Flightradar24.

It was estimated to arrive at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 at 12.40pm. However, just a few minutes into the flight, the Airbus A320 squawked 7700, the universal aviation transponder code for a general emergency, meaning the plane needed priority and assistance. The aircraft, registered G-EUUI, then circled approximately 6,500 feet above the city of Stirling for more than half an hour.

According to the information obtained, the plane could not retract the landing gear, but this has not yet been confirmed by the airline.

The flight then returned to Edinburgh and landed just after 12.15pm on Monday. He then stopped at the track, where he stayed for about half an hour. Several planes scheduled to land in the capital, including an easyJet flight from Amsterdam (AMS) and a Ryanair flight from Rzeszow (RZE), are being held in nearby airspace until the runway is cleared.

easyJet flight U27837 from Amsterdam was diverted to Glasgow, while another easyJet flight (U21231) from Basel (BSL) and Qatar Airways flight A (QR29) from Doha were delayed.

Express has contacted British Airways for comment.
