El Paso ISD votes to reassign CCTA for 2026-27 school year

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Independent School District College, Career and Technology Academy (CCTA) is being “reassigned” for the 2026-2027 school year.
At the district Board of Trustees board meeting held on Tuesday, March 24, members voted unanimously 7 to 0 for the motion to “reassign” the school.
CCTA is a program designed for students with insufficient credit, allowing them to graduate with essential college and career skills. The campus is at 2851 Grant Ave. in central El Paso. It is located at.
“We realized that having a centralized program made it more difficult, rather than easier, for our students to access the best options possible,” said EPISD Superintendent Brian Lusk.
Lusk emphasized that the proposed plan to reassign CCTA would provide more regional support and services to better meet the needs of students.
“The redesign is an opportunity to bring services closer to (students’) homes and bring that recovery opportunity to four of our eight campuses,” Paz said. Here are the four host schools and who they will serve:
-
Burges High School
-
Serve Burges and Jefferson high school students
-
-
Chapin High School
-
Serve Chapin, Andress and Irvin high school students
-
-
Franklin High School
-
Serve Franklin and Coronado high school students
-
-
El Paso High School
-
Serve El Paso, Austin and Bowie high school students
-
These schools will now serve CCTA students because they will be closer to home. Accepting campuses can offer “At-Risk” students additional options to stay on track with their cohort, according to the presentation.
During a presentation by Mark Paz, EPISD’s assistant superintendent of middle schools, the district provided its campus transition timeline for CCTA. Faculties have been notified of relocation since March 25, and the campus will be closed from June 8 to July 31 after the end-of-year ceremonies.
Paz assured board members that the Houston Head Start program, located in the same facility as CCTA, will continue to offer classes.
He also confirmed with board members that CCTA’s transition to these new schools will be effective for the new school year, effective August 26, 2026.
During the presentation, it was stated that the host school with the most CCTA students will be Chapin with 35 students. Paz says the expected total number of transfers will be less than 25 in total.
