Elderly Brit tourist, 79, missing in Spain as police launch investigation | World | News

Police are searching for an elderly British tourist who disappeared in southern Spain three days ago. Iain Stanley, 79, was last seen on February 11 near the Perla Marina Hotel in Nerja, at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol. It was understood that he disappeared after leaving a holiday home, and his last sighting was recorded around 14:00 on the day of the afternoon.
His wife reported him missing on Thursday, and the Civil Guard launched an investigation to determine what happened. A taxi driver was questioned by investigators after he said he believed he had taken a man matching his description to the nearby town of Torrox, but this has now been revealed to be a false lead.
Mr Stanley, who is said to be in good health, was wearing black jeans, a shirt and a blue jacket when he was last seen. He had no mobile phone or passport.
Reports of his disappearance are now circulating in many local expat Facebook groups, with relatives appealing for information on his whereabouts.
It was not immediately clear this afternoon where in England Mr Stanley was from. A well-wisher who helped by posting the appeal on social media said he was in Nerja for a two-month holiday.
Last Saturday, a British holidaymaker was airlifted to hospital in a valley in Tenerife, nearly 30 hours after he got lost during a three-hour hike.

An appeal was made the day before for information about Susan Hornsby, 76, from Dorset, after she disappeared on Friday morning during a trip to the island with her husband Peter.
At around 14:00 local time on Saturday afternoon, Louise Bakewell announced that the pensioner had been found alive and airlifted to hospital.
He said: “I managed to find his IMEI number and 28 hours later he was found alive. He is being airlifted to hospital. I am so relieved. He was found in a valley and airlifted to hospital. That’s all I know now.”
