Elderly man’s kidnap possibly a mistaken identity case

The kidnapping of an old man reported by his neighbors is being investigated by detectives as a case of confusion.
The 85-year-old, identified in media reports as Sydney resident Chris Baghsarian, has been missing from his North Ryde home since Friday morning.
Deputy Detective Andrew Marks said Mr Baghsarian’s neighbors told officers they saw him being taken away shortly after 5am.
While there were signs of forced entry into the home, it is understood Mr Baghsarian was taken into a dark-coloured Toyota SUV.
Police investigated the premises before detectives from the NSW Robbery and Serious Crime Squad were called.
“Police believe the man reported to have been kidnapped may not have been the intended target and are appealing for his safe return,” according to a police statement Saturday afternoon.
“Detectives have confirmed they are in contact with the man’s family as investigations continue.
“As part of the investigation, police have released an image of the man and are appealing for information from the public regarding his whereabouts.”
There are concerns that Mr Baghsarian, who was home alone at the time of the incident, may need medication and/or medical treatment.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers.
