Trump explains hoarse voice came from trade dispute

President Donald Trump blamed his hoarse voice on a tense standoff with a foreign country trying to renegotiate the terms of a trade deal.

Trump made a raspy noise during a meeting with the White House task force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, prompting a reporter to ask if he was feeling okay.

“I feel great. I was yelling at people for being stupid about something that had to do with business and the country, and I made it right, but I screwed these people up,” Trump told reporters Monday.

When asked which country, Trump did not specify which country triggered his anger, saying only that he was dissatisfied.

“One country wanted to renegotiate the terms of the trade agreement,” Trump said. “And I wasn’t happy about it.”

When asked what country it was, Trump said: “Why would I tell you that?” he said.

The United States has engaged in trade negotiations with many countries in recent months, including Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia. Additionally, Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea in October, where the two initiated some negotiations regarding trade between the two countries.

TRUMP SAID CHINA WILL WORK WITH HIM TO STOP FENTANYL TRADE

For example, Trump said he agreed to reduce tariffs on Chinese imports by 10%, dropping the rate from 57% to 47%, because he said China would work with the United States to resolve the fentanyl crisis.

Likewise, Trump said he would not impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods, which is expected to start on November 1. Trump threatened the steep increase after China announced in October that it would impose export controls on rare earth magnets and said China had agreed to delay it for a year.

Later, Trump said that a broader trade agreement would be signed between the two countries in the near future.

“I would say on a scale of zero to 10, 10 being the best, the meeting is a 12,” Trump told reporters after his meeting with Xi. he said. “Many decisions were made… and we came to a conclusion on many important points.”
