Defending Emily, one fan said: ‘These comments! ‘Aren’t we done talking about women’s bodies?’
‘The thing is, women can’t win. We are either too fat or too thin. While I appreciate you admiring her a little more, her body, or any woman’s body, is not open to public comment. “Let’s just say it’s stunning,” agreed another.
Another said: ‘Surprising she posted a series of adorable Christmas photos and 80% of the comments are about her body.’
Emily’s famous friend Katherine Ryan also had her say, writing ‘GIRL’ with a series of fire emojis.
The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Emily for comment.
The actress welcomed her first child with her scientist fiancé Alistair Garner in June 2024, a baby boy named Barney.
Just months after giving birth, Emily revealed she struggled with questions about her weight but refused to go back to the gym.
Speaking to Jamie Laing on the Great Company podcast in November 2024, Emily shared: ‘There’s something quite liberating about having a baby. Your body is going through so much that you literally look at your body as a completely different vessel.

‘Being pregnant and desexualizing, taking care of your body, you create a human being inside you, then you give birth to your child – which is mental, by the way – you go home and the first thing people say to you is when are you going back to the gym?’
Emily laughed: ‘Are you kidding? I just created a human, I’m tired! I just tried to get a person out of me and ripped him out of my stomach.
‘The last thing I want to do is go to the gym but the first thing expected of you is to get back into shape.
‘Where are the congratulations on becoming a mother? Instead, when are you going to lose the baby weight… I’m not going back to the gym at the moment, in fact I’ve gained more weight since giving birth. I’m just enjoying this job.’
Emily revealed she has always had a ‘healthy relationship’ with her weight but was not prepared for the comments she received for her breakthrough role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners.
‘Everyone started talking about my weight,’ she explained. ‘There was a Facebook page dedicated to me/Charlotte Hinchcliffe. I couldn’t believe how bad it was for people to talk about my weight.
‘People would then try to be positive and say ‘at least we’re seeing curvier girls playing sexier roles on TV now’. I didn’t even know I was curvy!
‘I was a size eight, I had a tiny body, but it was the first time some people were seeing a girl who wasn’t really skinny. ‘They were used to seeing very skinny actresses playing sexy girls.’
Talking about the juxtaposition of posing for men’s magazines while simultaneously being trolled online, she added: ‘Some people were saying I was sexy and beautiful, while others were saying I was fat and ugly. It was very confusing.

The Rivals star shared photos of group dinners and pub crawls, joking that the “so beautiful, crowded tables give me heartburn just looking at them.”
Just months after giving birth, Emily revealed she struggled with questions about her weight but refused to go back to the gym.
‘Fortunately, I have never had any unhealthy eating habits or diets, I am so lucky that I have never had one in my life.
‘I’m not on a diet. There have been times in my life when I thought I should give up wine for a while and get ready for this new challenge, or I went to the gym a little more for my mental health, but I never lost weight because I was told I was fat. ‘I had to train my brain.’
Emily announced the news of her engagement on Instagram last summer with a loving snap of her with shirtless fiancé Alistair, 40, showing off her dazzling diamond ring with the caption: ‘It’s Friday, I’m in love’.
The couple have known each other for almost three decades, as his mother is the sister of Alistair’s stepmother Jane Garner.
They met after Emily’s aunt started dating Alistair’s father Stephen Garner in the early 90s, eventually marrying in 1994, before Stephen tragically passed away in 2023, leaving Emily devastated.
