Emma Raducanu: Briton records first win since Australian Open and coach split

British number one Emma Raducanu claimed her first victory since her early exit from the Australian Open and subsequent split from coach Francis Roig.

The 23-year-old player defeated German Greet Minnen with a score of 6-0 6-4 at the Winners Open in Romania.

Raducanu, the tournament’s top seed, sent three aces and had four breaks of serve during 70 minutes of play.

She will next face Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan in the second round of the WTA 250 event on Wednesday.

The 2021 US Open champion was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open last month after a disappointing 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 defeat to Anastasia Potapova.

This was followed by the end of his partnership with Spanish coach Roig and Raducanu began searching for the 10th coach of his career.

Meanwhile, her English friend Sonay Kartal took her place in the last 16 of the Abu Dhabi Open by beating Spanish Cristina Bucsa 6-3 7-6 (10-8).

She will next face Swiss top seed Belinda Bencic on Wednesday.
