Hollywood director James Cameron said in an interview published Tuesday that he might still work with Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk despite their political differences.

In his interview with Puck “Town” podcastThe Hollywood liberal and director of “Titanic” and “Avatar” said he could still remain friends and collaborate with President Donald Trump’s former adviser as long as his goals align with higher priorities than politics, such as artificial intelligence and space travel.

“I can separate a person and his politics from what he wants to achieve if it’s aligned with what I think are good goals,” Cameron said.

Cameron has known Musk for years, and the pair share a passion for science and technology, including space travel. In an interview On NBC News in 2011, Cameron pointed to Musk as the man who will lead humanity’s space travel efforts in the future.

Cameron told NBC at the time, “Elon is making very strong progress. I think he’s the most likely person to replace the shuttle program and actually provide human access to low Earth orbit. So… go, Elon!”

Musk has become a pariah in liberal circles in recent years after becoming a Trump supporter. He was appointed a senior adviser in the Trump administration and was head of the now-defunct Office of Government Efficiency.

Cameron also had a lot to say when condemning Trump over the years. In February, the filmmaker said he saw the United States “moving away from everything that’s decent” under the Trump administration.

He said: “America doesn’t represent anything if it doesn’t represent what it has historically represented. It becomes a hollow idea, and I think they’re gutting it as fast as they can for their own benefit.”

Despite his liberal leanings, Cameron was quick to condemn Musk, saying when speaking to Puck that it was important to come together despite differences for the good of humanity.

“I think it’s important for us as a human civilization to prioritize; we have to make this Earth our spaceship. That’s what we really need to think about,” he said.

Musk and Cameron have warned that artificial intelligence will significantly change humanity.

Speaking at the US-Saudi Investment Forum last week Musk predicted Money and work may not matter in the future.

“If you go out long enough, assuming there is continued development in artificial intelligence and robotics, which seems likely, money will become obsolete at some point in the future,” he said.

In his interview with Puck, Cameron went deeper and talked about the crisis that this kind of AI revolution could cause.

“Because the general risk of AI in general … is that we lose our purpose as humans. We lose our jobs. ‘So, what are we here for?’ “We lose the feeling,” he said. “We are imperfect biological machines, and a computer could theoretically be more precise, more accurate, faster, it could do all these things. And this will be an existential threshold problem.”
