Energy minister K.J. George defends Sharavathi Pumped Storage Project

Energy Minister KJ George said that Karnataka Power Corporation Limited received the Sharavathi Pumpal storage project to meet energy demands at heavy hours. “It was difficult to meet the needs at busy hours,” he said to journalists during his visit to Lakkavalli on Monday, October 6, 2025.
Mr. George said the energy requirement will reach the highest point between 6: 00-20: 00-16: 00. “Officers explained the necessity of the project to people in the project position.
Forest program
Opposition to power projects from certain parts of the society was expected. The Minister said, “There are misconceptions between some people about the project. Officers are involved in the efforts to clean them. There is no fact in their statements that the project will affect the flow of the river. The pipeline will be placed underground and the above area can be used for the forestry.
Regarding the cutting of the trees, Mr. George said that the trees would be cut after watching the set procedures. “If a tree is cut, we will plant 10 saplings as part of the compensatory afforestation program,” he said.
The Minister participated in the opening of a 30 -bed Community Health Center in Lakkavalli. He was accompanied by the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundurao, Mla Gh Srinivas and others.
