Landmark global shipping deal abandoned under US threats

A landmark agreement to reduce global shipping emissions has been canceled after Saudi Arabia and the United States managed to end negotiations.
More than 100 countries had met in London to ratify a deal first agreed in April; This agreement would make shipping the world’s first industry to adopt internationally mandated targets to reduce emissions.
But President Trump called the plan a “green hoax” and representatives of the US administration have been threatening countries with tariffs all week if they vote in favor.
Reflecting the pressure countries face, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization issued a “demand” to ensure this does not happen again.
