Smoke From Amplifier Causes Brief Scare at Modi Rally Venue in Palakkad

Palakkad: Police said on Sunday that there were tense moments at the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to address the BJP rally after smoke was seen coming out of the amplifier. According to officials, the incident took place shortly before the chief minister arrived at Kottamaidanam, the rally venue here.

Police said smoke was noticed coming out of the amplifier connected to the microphones about half an hour before Modi reached Palakkad.

Sound system operators and police teams immediately intervened and dismantled the amplifier.

“Once the smoke was noticed, immediate action was taken. Microphone operators said the amplifier might have overheated due to excessive load,” an official said.

Officials added that another amplifier was quickly replaced and the problem was resolved.

A packed crowd had gathered at Kottamaidanam to witness Modi’s rally.

A large number of people also lined up on both sides of the road to see Modi, who arrived by helicopter and landed at the Mercy College ground. PTI TBA TBA ADB
