Psychopaths have a VERY different brain size to the rest | Science | News

Psychopaths have different brain structures to the rest of the population, found a great work – giving a new idea to one of the darkest corners of human psychology, Reports Newsweek.

Experts published in Springer Nature say that the findings have just shed light on neurobiology behind aggression and severe behaviors, and the results have confirmed long -term exhausted connections between brain volume and psychopathic characteristics.

Dark Personal Triad

A team of scientists from Germany and the University of Pennsylvania used the newest neuroorization techniques alongside the public Julich-Brain Atlas to compare the brains of 39 adult men diagnosed with psychopathy with a group of control subjects.

The research, which focused on the so -called “Dark Personality” trio, found striking differences in the brain volume and structure, especially in regions associated with emotion, decision -making and behavioral control.

Psychopathy checklist

Participants were evaluated using a psychopathy check list, which is a commonly used diagnostic tool. With higher scores in “lifestyle and antisocial behavior, basal ganglia – motor control and learning – and showed a significant lower brain volume in key areas, including Talamus, which conveyed sensory information.

In addition to the cerebellum and cerebellum, which helps to regulate the coordination and movement, there was a decrease in the areas located in the center of emotional regulation and social interaction.

Researchers suggest that these findings may be less developed or disrupted in people with psychopathic tendencies responsible for controlling behaviors.

Interestingly, features such as pathological lies and lack of empathy are defined as “interpersonal” aspects in the process-not strongly related to brain structure as well as anticial behavioral properties.

Significant low brain volume

The team also found that the overall brain volume in the psychopathy group is significantly lower than the controls, and the most remarkable difference in the right subiculum, which is part of the memory, is a part of the hippocampus.

The findings point to what researchers call ği widespread deterioration of brain development ”in individuals with psychopathic characteristics. They concluded that “antisocial behavior and brain volume has been reduced in widespread regions”.

However, authors have drawn attention to some limitations, as the use of different MRI browsers described and the participants do not match for cognitive ability or substance use – both may affect the results.

Nevertheless, the study takes an important step in understanding the biology of violent and antisocial behavior, and it is possible to discover whether future research is affected by whether these brain differences are affected by genetic or the environment.
