Samrat Choudhary, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took the oath of office as the Prime Minister on April 15. This Friday (May 15, 2026) marks one month since that date.

During this period, Mr. Choudhary took many important steps in line with the policies of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, focusing on development and zero tolerance towards corruption and crime.

A plan has been prepared for 11 satellite districts in 10 districts of Bihar. These districts will have planned residential colonies, designated commercial areas, wide roads and green areas with plantations on roadsides and in parks. This is considered to be one of Mr. Choudhary’s dream projects.

A suggestion to include Sasaram was also put forward. The initiative aims to reduce urban pressure, provide better living opportunities for citizens and promote planned development.

The “Police Didi Programme” is an important initiative that aims to increase the safety of women and girls while strengthening trust between the police and the community. The government decided to purchase 1,500 scooters for female police personnel. “Police Didi” officers will be deployed near schools and colleges to prevent harassment, mockery and crimes against women.

Launch of Sahyog Ki Triveni (Three-Tier Public Support System) to strengthen good governance and ensure government accountability to the people; this includes Sahyog Helpline: 1100, Sahyog Portal: sahyog.bihar.gov.in and Sahyog Camps at the panchayat level.

Starting from May 19, camps will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month to resolve complaints regarding block offices, police stations and revenue administrations. A period of 30 days has been set for the resolution of complaints registered on the portal. Failure to resolve complaints within this period may result in disciplinary action, including dismissal of the officer or employee involved.

In the second cabinet meeting, the government took a decision in the education sector by approving ₹ 800 crore to make all district schools and a selected higher secondary school in each block into “Model Schools”. In addition, ₹104 crore (₹50 lakh per college) was approved to set up new degree colleges in 208 blocks that do not currently exist, resulting in the creation of 9,152 new positions.

The government has also introduced measures to ensure transparency and accountability in private schools, such as mandatory disclosure of full fee structures; restrictions on arbitrary wage increases and unnecessary fees; and the freedom of parents to purchase books and uniforms from any retailer; Students cannot have their exams or results rejected due to pending fees. Mr. Choudhary promised to take strict action against institutions violating these guidelines.

Another important decision taken by his government is to amend the Bihar Public Works Act to give priority to State-level contractors in construction projects worth up to ₹ 50 crore. Going forward, contracts up to ₹50 crore will be given primarily to Bihar-based contractors, creating more employment and business opportunities for local people.

Along with this, a paperless e-recording system for land and property registration has been introduced to reduce corruption, save time and increase transparency. In addition, home registration services will be provided to citizens over the age of 80, eliminating the need for the elderly to go to government offices.

Apart from these initiatives, Mr. Choudhary also took other decisions and directed the police to maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards heinous crimes. In this regard, cases of clashes with the police were also reported in Bihar.
