“Charlie Kirk became a martyr for truth and freedom,” he said. “From Socrates to St. Peter, from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, those who changed history the most… always risked their lives for the causes they were sent into the world to defend.”
The ceremony took place just weeks after Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Police said 22-year-old Tyler Robinson killed himself because he disagreed with his political views and also stated that Kirk spread “too much hate.”

Charlie Kirk acted with faith
Addressing a crowd of family, supporters and administrative officials, Erika spoke of her husband as a man deeply guided by faith and evangelical principles. “There was no limit to what anyone would sacrifice to defend their freedom,” he said. “And if that moment had come, he would have run for president, not out of ambition, but because he truly believed that his country needed him with the heart of a servant.” He added that Kirk “fought for the truth.”
“Charlie only had 31 short years on this side of heaven, yet he lived every moment with purpose, standing for the truth even when it wasn’t popular,” Erika said.
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a college in Utah on September 10; This attack sparked widespread anger and raised fears of political violence. Last month, the House and Senate passed a resolution making October 14 “National Charlie Kirk Memorial Day.”

Trump praised Kirk
Trump hailed Charlie Kirk as a “martyr” to conservative values and compared him to some of history’s greatest figures. “Charlie Kirk became a martyr for truth and freedom,” Trump said. “And from Socrates to St. Peter, from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, those who changed history the most—and indeed they did—always risked their lives for the causes they were called to defend on Earth.”
The president stated that he believed Kirk was “underestimating us right now” and that his death was a reminder of increasing political violence. “We’ve seen a lot of far-left radicals resort to desperate acts of violence and terrorism because they know their ideas and arguments aren’t convincing anyone,” Trump said. “They have the ideology of the devil, and they are failing. And they know it. They feel it, and they resort to violence.”
Erika Kirk, who said that she forgave her murderer at the funeral, said that her late husband also believed in the Christian principle of forgiveness. “He prayed for his enemies in an amazing way,” he said. “I saw you do it.”
