Esther Ghey launches campaign to ban mobile phones in classrooms to protect pupils’ safety
The murdered young Brianna Ghey’s mother launched a campaign to remove mobile phones from schools as worries about their dependence on children’s screens.
Esther Ghey’s 16 -year -old daughter was stabbed 28 times by two young people to meet the linear park in Warrington in February 2023.

“There is a solution. In every school, we call a legal prohibition in the use of mobile phones (with medical and accessibility exemptions) for safe storage solutions for telephones in schools to provide a fair, safe and consistent application in every school.
“We know that it can work – schools that can meet this approach report improvements both in staff and student welfare.
“The school must have a focus, connection and protection.
Brianna’s own school, Birchwood Community High School has introduced special pouches to lock students’ phones throughout the day since then.
