EU militaries to be considered terrorist groups: Iran

Iran now says it views all European Union armies as terrorist groups.

The comment by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf follows last week’s EU agreement listing Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group for its role in the bloody crackdown on nationwide protests in the country.

Kalibaf cited a 2019 law as permission for the announcement. This law was passed after the United States listed the Guard as a terrorist group and allowed Iran to take reciprocal action against countries following this decision.

“By trying to shoot the Revolutionary Guards… the Europeans have actually shot themselves in the foot, and by blindly obeying the Americans, they have once again made a decision against the interests of their people,” he told lawmakers, all of whom wore Revolutionary Guard uniforms in support of the elite forces.

“According to Article 7 of the law on the measures to be taken against the designation of the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, the armies of European countries are considered terrorist organizations.”

During the session, Iranian politicians later chanted “Death to America!” They chanted slogans. and “Death to Israel!” in session.

Kalibaf added that the national security parliamentary commission will discuss the deportation of military attachés of EU countries and will follow up the issue with the ministry of foreign affairs.

The Revolutionary Guard, founded after Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution to protect the Shiite system of religious rule, wields great influence in the Islamic Republic, controlling much of the economy and armed forces.
