EU urges Ukraine to uphold independent anti-corruption bodies; Zelenskiy signals swift action
Brussels (Reuters) -European Commission President Ursula von Der Luyen called on President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to support the fight against independent corruption, and the Ukraine leader showed that the supporting legislation could be accepted in days.
Von Der Leyen, “Ukraine has already achieved a lot on the way to Europe. It should build on these solid foundations and protect the organs of the fight against independent corruption, the cornerstones of Ukraine’s superiority of law.” He said.
After a rare public criticism explosion, Zelenskiy on Thursday presented draft legislation to recover the independence of Ukraine’s Anti -Corruption Agencies – reversed a previous bill aiming to eliminate autonomy.
Im I thanked the European Commission for the expertise provided, Z Zelenskiy said in a mission on X after the call with von der leyen.
He continued: “We share the same vision: It is important that the bill is accepted without a delay on an early date next week.”
Von der leyen also promised to constantly support Ukraine on the way to EU membership.
“Ukraine may rely on our support for progressing on the way to Europe.”
