European Leaders to Hold Ukraine Online Summit Prior to Trump-Putin Meet

Berlin: European leaders will have online talks with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, hoping to persuade him to respect Ukraine’s interests when Russia discussed the war with Vladimir Putin on Friday.

The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to a video conference in the afternoon of French, British and other European leaders and the presidents of EU and NATO.

Later, they are expected to talk to Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the second round of the conference meeting.

The Trump-Putin meeting on Friday is planning to continue for the first time without Russia’s full-scale occupation of Ukraine three years ago.

This fueled the fears that Kiev could be forced to painful concessions, including land.

On Tuesday, the EU leaders emphasized the “right to choose Ukraine’s own destiny” and added that “international borders should not be changed forcibly”.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Zelensky refused to attract unity from the Donbas region claimed by Moscow.

Merz’s office said that the conference meeting will “prepare more options to apply pressure on Russia” and “Preparation of possible peace negotiations and regional claims and security issues”.

Berlin said in a statement on Monday, “Finland, France, England, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, European Commission and Council Presidents, NATO Secretary General and US President and Vice President,” he said.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Merz are also preparing to have a series of talks on the willing coalition of Ukraine’s military supporters.

Trump reduced the likelihood of a breakthrough in Alaska on Monday, but with Putin he expected “constructive conversations”.

“This is a really felt meeting, Tr Trump said at the White House, but at the same time,” there will be a little swap, there will be some changes on land “.

As a prerequisite for a peace agreement, Russia demanded Kiev to withdraw its powers from several regions allegedly allegedly by Moscow, to be an impartial state, to leave the United States and to join NATO.

Ukraine said it would never recognize Russia’s control over the sovereign region, but admitted that the land seized by Russia should go through diplomacy, not on the battlefield.

Ukraine said on Tuesday that Moscow was dealing with “difficult” wars with the Russian forces after making rapid progress in a narrow but important part of the façade in the east of the country.

Zelensky on social media “We see that the Russian army is not ready to end the war. On the contrary, they are making preparations for new attack operations.”
