Ewan Methven, who murdered girlfriend Phoenix Spencer-Horn before texting her mother pretending to be her, jailed

A man who killed his girlfriend and cut his head before texting his mother and texting his mother who was looking for internet pornography was imprisoned.
Ewan Methven was sentenced to at least 23 years in prison on Monday after confessing that he killed his 21-year-old girlfriend Phoenix Spencer-Horn.
Methven killed him at home on 16 November 2024 in East Kilbide.
He also confessed to cutting his body and texting his mother, acting like him.
Methven, who is currently 27 years old, killed Mrs. Spencer-Horn after ordering a double package service.
Earlier that day, he complained to his girlfriend that their waiter shifts made him “alone”.
The Supreme Court in Glasgow was told that Methven attacked Ms. Spencer-Horn, stabbed 20 times, including 10 times on his face before injuring his body and breaking his head.

Methven also strangled him, searched for internet pornography 170 times, and at the weekend, Mrs. Spencer-Horn’s Red Corsa wandered and made attempts to buy cocaine before texting to his mother, claiming that he was still alive, according to prosecutors.
“Hey Sorry, I just woke up XXX,” the court said.
On November 18, he called about 999 in the afternoon and wrote a call: “I took a psychotic break and killed my wife.”
He said: “We were scattered, I buy steroids and I was taking cocaine and alcohol, I think there was something else in it… It was terrible.”
He was transferred to a senior police officer and said, orum I just want to go to jail, ”he said: im I got out of my face, I can’t remember what happened. I’m driving about the whole weekend.”
Police officers discovered Ms. Spencer-Horn’s fragmented body hidden under a towel. Methven admitted that he was trying to remove the limbs and body from his body with a knife or another instrument.
Defense, Tony Graham KC, in 2024 that Methven realized that a problem of addiction, and the judge cocaine, steroids and other drugs, “causing damage to the cause of the damage to him,” he said.
Mr. Graham read from the letter: “I know how much Phoenix loves and how he completed his family. I cannot believe that I took him from them.”
“Mr. Methven is in a position where the course of the events that lead to Phoenix’s death can not make a statement other than the self -application.”
Methven said that he insisted that a person he loves has taken his life and that he appreciated that he had caused a tremendous void in that family ”and“ struggling to reconcile how it could cause this destruction ”.
Mr. Graham said that Methven was “taken to the family of Phoenix’s family and appreciated that he was adopted for a family in the two -year period” and described the murder as “betrayal”.
However, he said he could not explain why Methven could not explain and added: “They have returns, but there is no real memory of how things are moving to this destruction of human life.”
Judge Lord Matthews, who imposes a life sentence, said Methven confessed to “a really terrible crime”.
Lord Matthews said: “When he was 21, he was on the verge of what he had to be a long and satisfying life. You were a reliable member of his family, but you betrayed this trust.
“For reasons that no one has stabbed 20 times on his face, including 10 on his face.
“Two days later, you began to watch drug addiction and pornography, communicate with her mother and act like her.”
“This was the way you treat this innocent young woman after her death, it meant that her family did not have the comfort to say goodbye to her.”
