Ex-MP accused of sexually assaulting 13yo boy allegedly met teen on gay hook-up app

A former NSW MP accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy met the teenager on a gay hookup app, a jury has been told.
Roderick “Rory” Amon pleaded not guilty to 10 historical child sex crimes, including five counts of sexual intercourse with a person between the ages of 10 and 14.
Mr Amon, formerly a Northern Beaches councilor and MP, appeared in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, where his two-week trial began before Acting Justice Robert Allan Hulme.
He allegedly met the 13-year-old, who was in Year 8 at high school at the time, on gay dating site Squirt.org in 2017, Crown Prosecutor Meaghan Fleeton told the jury on Friday.
He told the jury that Mr. Amon was 27 years old.
The boy had lied about his age as you had to be 18 to use the app, but Ms Fleeton said the jury would hear evidence from the complainant that she told Mr Amon she was 15.
In her opening statement, Ms Fleeton told the jury the pair switched to social media app Snapchat shortly after exchanging sexually explicit images and videos.
At one stage they met in person and Mr Amon allegedly instructed the boy to perform oral sex on him in the bathroom of an underground car park.
Mr. Amon has maintained his innocence and the trial continues.
