Ex-NBA star Glen Davis freed after serving 17 months in prison

Former NBA star Glen Davis returned home more than a year earlier than initially expected.
Davis was released Thursday after spending 17 months behind bars. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison after being convicted of attempted health benefits scheme fraud. Davis’ attorney, Brendan White, said the NBA champion is making the most of his time while serving his sentence.
“He used his time productively while serving his sentence and participated in many programs during this time,” White said. Athletic. “He is ready to become a productive member of society again.”

“They tried to hold me down. You know what I’m saying? But I’m back, man. I’m back, baby,” Davis later said in a video sent to X. He confirmed that he was released.

Davis was sentenced in November 2023. He was one of 20 people charged and convicted for their roles in a wide-ranging conspiracy that involved submitting false medical claims to the NBA Players’ Health and Benefits Plan. indictment.
Although Davis was originally scheduled to go to prison in September 2024, the judge gave him about two more months to finish his documentary film. He eventually reported after a seven-week delay.

In addition to the prison sentence, Davis will be sentenced to three years of supervised release. During that time, he must attend a financial management class and undergo mandatory drug treatment as conditions of release. He was also ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution.
Davis is scheduled to be released from the rehabilitation center in early July. Athletic.

Davis was a member Boston Celtics 2008 NBA championship team. He also had stints with the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers during his nine-year NBA career. According to the height and weight lists of NBA players, he weighed an average of 290 pounds during his playing days.
