Ex-Tory MP and others accused of election date betting face two-year wait for trials | UK news

Others, who are accused of cheating on last year’s general election date last year’s general election date, are waiting for more than two years for their hearings.

Craig Williams, who served as the senior of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the time, appeared on Friday with 14 other defendants in Southwark Crown Court.

A defense did not specify. Twelve of the defendants claimed that they were not guilty at a hearing at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month.

The Southwark Court will apply to reject the charges on January 19 next year.

Many defendants, the first September 6, 2027 and the second for 3 January 2028 planned two cases will be held.

Williams, Montgomeryshire and Cardiff North will be at the 2028 hearing. He is accused of cheating on gambling and helping others to cheat or help.

The accusations came out of the Scott Operation, which investigated the allegation that he was gambling by politicians and conservative party employees before the general elections last year.

Sam Stein KC, who prosecute the gambling commission, said to a previous hearing: “The SCOTT operation was an investigation by the Conservative Party’s politicians and employees and a former police officer.

“The prosecution says that betting with internal information is a criminal offense, that is, cheating.”

Other defendants include former Conservative Senedd, 50 -year -old Russell George and the suspended director of Galli conservatives, Thomas James, and both said they were not satisfied with the criminals before.

If the defendants are convicted, they may face imprisonment of up to two years.

From October 2022 to June 2024, Williams served as Special Secretary of Parliament.
