Three commanders-in-chief of the armed forces boarded the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and inspected the joint multi-domain operation carried out as part of the mega Exercise Trishul, officials said on Thursday.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth; Flag Officer-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Air Officer-in-Chief, South Western Air Command, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, witnessed the operational demonstration of “carrier-borne flight operations and ongoing resupply last night”, according to a senior official.

From the Thar Desert to the Kutch region, the Army, Navy and Indian Air Force have been participating in a series of sub-exercises over the last two weeks under the overarching framework of Trishul Tri-Service Exercise, which will culminate in a joint amphibious exercise off the Saurashtra Coast on Thursday.
This exercise will include beach landing operations by Southern Command’s amphibious forces, verifying full-spectrum land-sea-air integration and underscoring the armed forces’ ability to project power and synergy across multiple domains.

Exercise Trishul stands as a testament to the armed forces’ commitment to the JAI (partnership, atnirbharta and innovation) vision and covers areas from electronic warfare to counter-drone operations, according to the defense ministry.

The stage for the finale of the exercise was set in Gujarat’s Porbandar and a rehearsal was held on Wednesday. Chiefs of the Army’s Southern Command, the Navy’s Western Naval Command (WNC) and the IAF’s South Western Air Command boarded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to review maritime and joint multi-domain operations being conducted as part of the exercise, a senior Navy official said. They also witnessed the operational demonstration of carrier-borne flight operations and ongoing resupply. he said Wednesday night.

WNC shared some photos on the X handle of the three commanders-in-chief aboard INS Vikrant off the Saurashtra Coast early on Thursday.

“The joint presence of the three Commanders-in-Chief at #INSVikrant symbolizes a strong step towards unity and integrated functioning across services and will significantly enhance joint working and interoperability, enabling integrated impact-based operations in multi-domain environments.” he said.

On November 2, the defense ministry said Exercise Trishul began with mission-oriented verifications to strengthen integrated readiness across multiple domains, reflecting the armed forces’ expanded multi-domain capabilities and focus on ATMirbharta in defence.

In the Thar desert, Southern Command formations conducted intense integrated maneuvers through exercises ‘MaruJwala’ and ‘Akhand Prahaar’ to verify combined arms operations, mobility and joint fire integration under realistic conditions.

The Army has properly integrated components of the IAF and the Navy, officials said.

They said a joint exercise in the Kutch sector involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, coast guard and BSF rehearsed the integrated operational capability in close coordination with the civil administration, reflecting the military-civil fusion approach towards integrated national security.

In a determined display of operational excellence and joint readiness, the IAF conducted exercise MahaGujRaj-25 in the western sector from October 29 to November 11, according to officials.

To ensure multi-dimensional response in operations utilizing all available assets and infrastructure, IAF fighters undertook the operations from Hirasar international airport in Rajkot. They said the exercise highlighted a higher degree of civilian-multitask alignment and coordination to achieve mission objectives.

Exercise Trishul covers electronic warfare, cyber, drone and counter-drone operations, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and air defense control and reporting.

The defense ministry said earlier that it had reaffirmed tri-service readiness to dominate both virtual and physical domains through seamless integration of land, sea and air for coordinated joint fires.
