Explosion rocks Olso US Embassy in latest attack on American consulate | World | News

Police confirmed that the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway’s capital, was shaken by an explosion in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 8.
Authorities in Norway confirmed that the building sustained some damage, but it is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the explosion.
Oslo police spokesman Mikael Dellemyr confirmed that authorities were called to the American compound around 1 a.m. local time after a loud explosion and thick smoke near the consulate building.
“The police are in a dialogue with the embassy,” he said, adding that the police will remain at the scene “for many hours” to come. Local students passing by the scene said that the area was covered in smoke immediately after the explosion.

“There was a very thick layer of smoke on the street,” said Sebastian Toerstad, an 18-year-old student who was passing by the embassy at the time of the incident, according to CNN.
Norweigan publication NRK reported that police were combining the use of “dogs, drones and helicopters to track down one or more potential perpetrators” in connection with the explosion.
The embassy explosion follows recent attacks on diplomatic buildings around the world, along with similar attacks in Saudi Arabia. Israel is linked to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.
Police have urged the public to report any tips or unusual sightings in the area between midnight and 2am (23:00 GMT and 01:00 GMT).
The attack followed a series of “retaliatory attacks” by Tehran against American facilities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
