F1 sprint races 2026: Silverstone and Singapore among events next year

It offers a new race in Madrid, the Spanish capital. This is in addition to the event in Barcelona-Catalunia, Barcelona Circuit, which has been home to the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991.
Barcelona’s contract ends after next season, but the new contract will be one of the events that return with Belgium Grand Prix, which hosts races at the next six years.
Other activities that are interested in returning are Germany, Portugal and Turkey.
The F1 is also trying to end its plans for a new race in Bangkok, Thailand, maybe 2028.
Since 2023, there are six sprints every year, and the F1 did not increase it for 2026 due to the additional burden on the teams as a result of the introduced new chassis and engine arrangements.
However, F1 bosses are planning to increase the number of sprint events from 2027 to 12, which means sprint in half of the races throughout the season.
The Sprint event has a shorter race with its own qualified session before qualified and main activity. A traditional Grand Prix has three application sessions before the weekend, qualified and Grand Prix.
There are also discussions about changing the form of sprint events that may include trial of reverse grids.
F1 President Stefano Domejali said that the sprints attracted larger viewers and that they were more interested in a wider number of people than the application sessions.
Sprints also earn more income for sports, because supporters are preparing to pay a premium to host them.
F1 is eager to make each race as competitive and interesting as possible for the largest audience.
