Face of mystery man found dead in Claerwen Reservoir revealed by police

A police force has released the facial reconstruction of a man whose body was found more than a year after it was discovered in a reservoir.
The unidentified man, wearing a wetsuit, is believed to have been in the water for up to 12 weeks before a walker discovered him at Claerwen Reservoir in Powys in October 2024.
Dyfed-Powys Police released the facial reconstruction created by the Face Lab at Liverpool John Moores University in the hope someone will recognize it.
Detective Inspector Anthea Ponting, who is leading the investigation, commented: “When we were notified of the discovery we immediately set to work to identify this man.
“We began working with neighboring police forces to check on missing or wanted persons who could not be traced, due to the absence of any personal belongings other than the diving suit he was wearing, and no identification documents or vehicles nearby.
“When this failed we expanded our investigations to contact all UK forces, conducted searches in the National Police Database and issued bulletins to police overseas through Interpol.
“We also searched DNA, fingerprints and dental records for possible matches and issued appeals to the public and media for information.
“Each time we have reached out to the public, we have been provided with some investigations to pursue, but unfortunately none have been key to finding out who this person is.”
There was no other clothing, jewelry or means of transportation in the area when the man was found, and the man had no distinguishing marks such as scars or tattoos.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the man was aged between 30 and 60, around 6ft tall, weighed 202-220lb and was of white European descent.
Ms Ponting added: “I would urge anyone who thinks they might recognize him to come forward.
“This is someone’s family member, someone’s loved one, and I want nothing more than to give him back to his loved ones who may miss him.”
Anyone who visited Claerwen Reservoir between July and October 2024 and saw anything that could assist the investigation, or is aware of someone fitting the description who has not been seen for some time, can contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
