Falcons fire assistant coach LaTroy Lewis amid police sexual assault probe

LaTroy Lewis’ time as a member of the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff lasted less than a month. The team fired him on Friday after sexual assault allegations emerged.

The allegations are connected to a December 2024 hotel incident while Lewis was with the Michigan football coaching staff. The Falcons said in a statement Friday that the organization was aware of the allegations against the former assistant defensive line coach.

“We are aware of the allegations regarding LaTroy Lewis,” the Falcons said. “We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”

In the statement taken by ESPNMichigan spokesman Paul Corliss called the allegations “deeply concerning.”

Attorney Fabiola A. Galguera said Lewis “plans to vigorously fight these false allegations with the support of his wife, family and my team.”

Fox News Digital was unable to reach Lewis for comment.

Lewis served as a graduate assistant at Michigan in 2022 and was promoted to assistant defensive line coach over the next two seasons.

“The Ann Arbor Police Department was recently made aware of allegations of sexual assault that reportedly occurred on December 5, 2024. The suspect in this investigation is LaTroy Lewis,” Ann Arbor Police spokesman Chris Page said in a statement sent to Fox News Digital. he said.

“AAPD Detective Bureau immediately initiated an investigation into the incident. This investigation is active and ongoing.”

Karen Truszkowski, the attorney for the woman who accused Lewis of sexual assault, said her client filed an incident report with Ann Arbor police and requested a protective order against Lewis.

According to Truszkowski, the woman and Lewis connected through a dating app in July 2024, and Lewis claimed their behavior became aggressive through text messages and phone calls. According to Truszkowski, they met for the first time in December 2024 at an Ann Arbor hotel. They met when Ann told the police that Lewis had raped her.

The next month, the Milford Police Department in Michigan responded to a 911 call from the woman’s neighbors who were hearing loud noises, according to Truszkowski. The lawyer said his client and Lewis told police their argument was not physical.

Truszkowski said his client told Milford police that Lewis was an assistant defensive line coach at Michigan and did not want to talk about it. According to Truszkowski, at the time, she was hesitant to tell police that Lewis had physically abused her.

Fox News Digital has filed a request with Ann Arbor Police to obtain the police report and protective order regarding the allegations against Lewis.

Lewis was coached by former Michigan coaches Sherrone Moore and Jim Harbaugh. Moore was fired in December after he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and was charged with three felonies, including felony home invasion and stalking.

The woman who accused Lewis reportedly shared details of the incident with Moore, according to her attorney. But Truszkowski said Moore ultimately chose not to report Lewis and instead sent his client suggestive, sexually explicit text messages.

Moore’s lawyer denied the allegations.

“Sherrone Moore failed to report abuse, did not reward abuse, and did not harass anyone,” Moore’s attorney, Ellen K. Michaels, said in a statement to ESPN. he said. “These allegations are false.”

“As we have noted, the university has launched an investigation into the circumstances and conduct that led to the firing of Sherrone Moore, as well as a broader culture review within the athletics department,” Corliss said in a statement. he said.

“We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to contact the law firm conducting the investigation.

Lewis played linebacker at Tennessee before signing with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and participating in the preseason. He later spent time with the Texans and Titans and coached at Toledo last season.
