Family of Aria Thorpe ‘heartbroken’ by death of nine-year-old in stabbing

The family of nine-year-old Aria Thorpe said “our hearts are broken in ways we could never have imagined” after the girl was stabbed to death.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Lime Close in Weston-super-Mare just before 6.10pm on Monday night; here Aria had received a single stab wound.

A 15-year-old boy appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Friday charged with murder.

Memorialized by Aria’s mother in a statement released by police on Friday, the family said: “To those who didn’t have the privilege of knowing Aria, she was the most beautiful little soul – happy, go lucky, full of light and joy. “She loved to sing and dance and took so much pride in dressing up that she always wanted to look like her mother.

“We are devastated beyond words by the loss of Aria. Our hearts are broken in ways we could never have imagined. We remain close as a family and do everything we can to support each other during this unimaginable time.”

“We have been really touched by the lovely messages we have received from friends and local people over the last few days. It has meant so much to us all.”

Aria’s father, Tom Thorpe, said: “Our little Aria, it’s hard to put into words how devastating it is to be there with angels watching over us.

“’Dad, how long is it left?’ How sad will it be to not hear your voice? on long drives back and forth on weekends. I’d love to hear you ask me to test you with math, ‘numbers’ as you call it, to keep you entertained when you get bored of the iPad. How sad it will be not to have butter crackers, grapes and yoghurt for your breakfast.

Aria was described by her family as a 'brave' and 'kind-hearted' nine-year-old girl

“You were such a brave, kind-hearted and beautiful, innocent soul. You always put a smile on people’s faces with your crazy behavior and downright crazyness. It was always so easy to show your love to others, making sure those around you were happy and never bored!

“I will never forget the time we spent as a family at Disneyland; seeing her face light up while watching the princess show was an image that will stay with us forever.

“Your other little family in Portsmouth will miss you forever. We too will miss you begging to go out, even in the pouring rain, to have as much fun as possible in the little time we had on the weekends.”

“You will be missed so much, you special little angel. This life is over too soon, but I hope it’s a life well lived. We all love you so much. Goodnight darling.”
