Fans remain convinced celebrity impersonator was responsible for Jim Carrey’s ‘unrecognisable appearance’ at Cesar Awards despite spokesperson insisting it was the real Hollywood star

Jim Carrey’s spokesman has confirmed that it was indeed him who attended the Cesar Awards in Paris on Thursday after fans thought he had been ‘cloned’ due to his striking new look.
But hours later people were convinced that it was not Jim, 64, but celebrity impersonator and performer Alexis Stone, real name Elliot Rentz, 32.
Alexis, who has appeared in the past with names such as Jack Nicholson, Jocelyn Wildenstein and Donatella Versace, shared a photo of Jim with his prosthetic mask and false teeth at the event and wrote: ‘Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.’
While many fans continue to push conspiracy theories, others think Alexis’ post is just an attention-seeking stunt, taking advantage of Jim’s shocking new look, which may simply be related to plastic surgery.
Actress Megan Fox initially wrote: ‘I can’t take any more stress right now I need to know if this is real’, while Lisa Rinna wrote: ‘You blow me away’.
Fans believe celebrity impersonator Alexis Stone is responsible for Jim Carrey’s ‘unrecognizable appearance’ at the Cesar Awards on Thursday; although his spokesman insisted that this was the real Hollywood star
Alexis posted a prosthetic face mask, false teeth, and a 3D image that appeared to be produced by artificial intelligence but still fooled many people.
Alexis Stone, whose real name is Elliot Rentz, claimed they impersonated Jim at the ceremony and shared photos in Paris that week.
Megan Fox originally wrote: “I can’t take any more stress right now I need to know if this is real.” Lisa Rinna wrote: “You blow me away” and people continued to suggest it wasn’t him because the rep insisted it was really Jim.
Fans continued to flock to Alexis’ social media post
Love Island’s Malin Andersson asked: ‘Is this legal??? Or is this a distraction?’, while Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Stephanie Suganami commented: ‘You’re lying!!!!!!’
After the rep confirmed that the person at Thursday’s event was the real Jim, people continued to flood Alexis’ comments and became convinced it was him.
Katy Perry shared a bullseye emoji, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski shared a clapping hands emoji, and many people were writing about how confused they were.
Others wrote: ‘Did I get into 100 fights defending Jim Carrey’s plastic surgery decisions?!?!?!’
And: ‘Blink twice if they tell you to share this.’
But the biggest thing that led others to believe it wasn’t Alexis was Jim giving a speech at Cesar’s and the fact that Alexis usually doesn’t talk while impersonating celebrities.
They wrote: ‘How come Jim is the ONLY celebrity who does interviews by pretending to be him and signing autographs? , everyone else you just modeled and photographed….’
‘Click bait; It’s sad that people believe this. Watch video footage of Carrey’s acceptance speech. Have you noticed how this guy never speaks at events while dressing as someone else? ‘You can’t do speeches and interviews with prosthetics without people knowing right away.’
‘He’s Jim Carrey but his face is swollen so he looks changed, otherwise no one could make a mask this realistic…’
On Thursday, Jim broke his silence on the bizarre conspiracy theory that he was ‘cloned’.
After photos of him accepting his honorary gong emerged, the internet was awash with conspiracy theories, ranging from the claim that he had gone under the knife to the wild claim that he had been replaced by a clone.
However, his representative emphasized to the Daily Mail that the actor personally attended the Cesars, dubbed the French version of the Oscars.
Awards general delegate Gregory Caulier said Jim’s appearance was unique and a ‘historic moment’.
Stating that the discussion was ‘problemless’, Gregory said: ‘Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the very beginning he was extremely impressed by the Academy’s invitation.’
What did Jim Carrey do to his face? (right, in 2022)
Noting that Jim discussed and practiced speaking French for eight months, Jim told Variety, adding that the actor was supported by 12 family members and friends as he accepted the honor.
Ever since Jim’s new look was revealed, the internet has been awash with strange conspiracy theories.
One of the most shocking claims on social media was that Jim had been ‘cloned’, with theorists emphasizing that although he was left-handed, his eye color looked lighter when signing with his right hand.
One X/Twitter user wrote: ‘I’ve been talking about human cloning for a long time and I’m happy to see it’s finally getting some attention. Jim Carrey was cloned years ago.
‘Something has changed behind the scenes to allow us to see unfinished and malfunctioning clones. The new clones have a fluffy appearance.
‘Perfecting voices and mannerisms takes time. Additional surgeries are needed to ensure a perfect fit.
‘I think this lack of care is evidence of the ongoing silent war against conspiratorial cloning by military white hats.’
Another added: ‘Yes…umm NO! This is NOT Jim Carrey! Jim Carrey has dark brown eyes…this knockoff/clone creature has light eyes.’
One fan suggested Jim was deliberately trolling the public, tweeting: ‘I’m just saying this is not Jim Carrey and is purely a publicity stunt for an upcoming movie or a documentary. [sic].’
At the Cesar Awards, Jim not only had people talking about his looks, but also the kind words he had to say about the special people in his life.
The Hollywood star was accompanied on the red carpet by his 38-year-old daughter Jane, his teenage son Jackson and his partner Min Ah, whom Jim talked about in a heartfelt conversation delivered entirely in French.
‘Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. “I thank my great companion Min Ah,” he said. ‘I love you Min Ah.’
Exactly when Jim and Min Ah got together remains a mystery.
At the ceremony, director Michel Gondry made an emotional speech and talked about their work together on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
When Jim finally stood up to speak, The Mask star said: ‘Nearly three hundred years ago, my great-great-great-great-grandfather Marc François Carrey left Saint-Malo, France, for Canada.
‘Tonight, with this magnificent honour, this ‘square’ has come full circle. Maybe this is what my family is looking for.’
Jim’s presence on the 51st César Awards red carpet was already notable; After a four-year hiatus from major film roles, he resurfaced in 2020 as the mischief-making Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog.
But even then whispers of retirement followed him.
In April 2022, while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim shocked reporters by admitting he was “probably” stepping away from acting.
‘Okay, I’m retiring. Yes, probably. “I’m quite serious,” he said at the time, adding that he was ready to embrace a quieter life “unless the angels bring some kind of script written in golden ink.”
“I really love my quiet life, I really love pouring paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life,” he continued.
‘It’s like – and I feel like this is something you’ll never hear another celebrity say for as long as there is time – I’ve got enough. I’ve done enough. ‘I am enough.’
Despite his outspoken talk about hanging up his acting hat, Jim couldn’t stay away from the role that had become his trademark late in his career.
He returned as Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 last year, and he candidly admitted that part of his reason for returning was practical.
‘I needed the money,’ he joked in an interview.
Jim plays Dr. in Sonic 4, which is scheduled to be released in 2027. He is set to reprise his role as Robotnik.
