London local elections 2026: Full results map for every mayoralty and council

While Reform UK and the Green Party made big gains in traditional Labour’s heartlands, Labor suffered big losses in local councils in London.
Green Party’s Zoë Garbett is elected mayor of Hackney, in a major blow to Labor; Zack Polanski’s party also won the mayoral seats in Lewisham and Waltham Forests. Lambeth, Labour’s previous stronghold, failed to achieve overall control as the Green Party now holds the most seats in the borough.
The Greens also won council elections in Hackney and Waltham forest, then took control of a third London council, knocking out a Labor majority in Lewisham.
The Conservatives regained control of Westminster City Council from Labor and also retained Kensington and Chelsea, Croydon and Bexley, which were targets of Reform UK.

In her victory speech, Ms Garbett criticized the “failed Labor government” and said the borough “rejects hatred and division” following her victory in Hackney.

The Liberal Democrats retained Sutton, Richmond-upon-Thames and Kingston-upon-Thames.
The capital has been seen as a Labor Party stronghold in recent years; The party held majority control in 21 councils. But in the four years since the 2022 London election, the political landscape has changed dramatically.
Sir Keir Starmer’s Labor Party’s popularity has waned since it came to power in 2024; Surveys of younger, more left-leaning voters suggest that this dynamic benefits the Green Party the most.
Not since the current system of local government in the capital was established in 1964 have councils in London been placed under general control.
There are nine London councils where no party won enough seats to form a majority.
Eight of these were previously controlled by Labor (Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Haringey, Lambeth, Newham, Southwark, Wandsworth), but there is not yet overall control of Croydon.
The previous record for the largest number of London councils without overall control after a local election was eight, set in 2006.

Competitions were held in 136 local authorities across the country, including some of the largest cities and the whole of London. A mix of urban authorities and rural districts, as well as various provincial councils, also held elections.
This is the biggest local election in the UK in three years and an important test for all political parties.
