Farmers Burn Old Pattadar Passbooks In Bhogi Fires: Kolusu

: Housing, information and public relations minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said on Wednesday that farmers across the state were symbolically eradicating the hardships they faced under the previous regime by sending their old pattadar passbooks to Bhogi bonfires and embracing a new beginning with newly minted passbooks.

Bhogi celebrations were held at Gollapudi One Center on the outskirts of Vijayawada, where Parthasarathy and Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad lit the traditional bonfire.

Speaking at the meeting, the minister said that while old passbooks created uncertainty and difficulties for farmers, new passbooks bearing the official State seal restored confidence in farmers. He said Bhogi’s ritual of burning old items reflects the determination to leave past problems behind and move forward with hope.

Parthasarathy said farmer welfare is the top priority of the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led government. He added that grain purchase payments were transferred to farmers’ bank accounts within 24 hours and large investments were attracted to create jobs for young people.

MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad said Sankranti was celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere across the state and conveyed festive greetings to the people of Mylavaram constituency.
