For any racing fan, the Melbourne Cup carnival represents the pinnacle of the racing season, when world-class horses, owners, trainers and jockeys come together on Flemington’s big stage.
This year marks 20 years since Makybe Diva defied history to win her third Melbourne Cup, a legendary feat.

I was nine years old at the time, but they were at the height of the success of their partnership for Lee Freedman and the FBI (Freedman Brothers Inc). Looking back, it was that incredible mare and this carnival that really sparked my passion for racing.
Now, training in partnership with a former FBI member (my dad Anthony), the Melbourne Cup carnival is a key target for our stable.
We’ve had a few of our own special moments there over the years.

Any coach will tell you: It is difficult to win at Flemington during cup week.
The pitches are elite, the pressure is huge and the margins are good. If you can only choose one race, you’ve done well. If you can find a pair, this is the highlight of your career.
