Father, 34, died ‘like a dog rolling around on the floor’ in front of his son in A&E waiting room after staff ‘did nothing’ when he suffered heart attack

The father, who collapsed in the A&E waiting room, was left to die ‘like a dog rolling on the floor’ after suffering a heart attack, his family claimed.

Thomas Casey, 34, endured ‘excruciating’ pain at Broomfield Hospital in Essex on Friday due to alleged inaction by NHS staff.

The 34-year-old man’s son, who bears his name, claimed that he warned hospital staff “you are going to kill him” because it was “obvious” that his father had cardiovascular problems.

An investigation has been launched by NHS Mid and South Essex after Chelmsford MP Marie Goldman sent a letter to the hospital demanding answers about the ‘extremely distressing’ incident.

Thomas Jr told the BBC: ‘[I will never forget] The terrible image of my father on the ground, his blue face and white foam dripping from his mouth.

‘My father was in agony, moaning, in front of everyone.’

The 19-year-old said he wanted a screen to be installed at the hospital in honor of his father, who was a “very proud man.”

‘They didn’t care about him. They left him like a dog rolling on the ground. It was inhumane,” Thomas Jr. said.

Mr Casey went to Basildon Hospital the day before the incident but returned home after facing a seven-hour wait.

His son described him as a ‘little do-gooder’ who was always helping others.

Thomas Jr said he believed the hospital discriminated against him and his father because they were from the Traveler community.

He reflected on the ‘destruction’ wrought on his family, saying he ‘can’t believe’ his father is dead.

Ms Goldman MP said in her letter that people had written to her about the ‘tragedy’.

Urging the hospital to consider a formal investigation into Mr Casey’s death, he said: ‘Given the seriousness of this incident, there is understandable concern about what immediate measures are being taken to protect patients.’

Christine Blanshard, chief medical officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘We extend our condolences to the patient’s family.

‘We will investigate the care he received and invite his family to meet with us and discuss their concerns.’
