Father in Last Political Phase

In a statement that has stirred the political waters of Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah said that his father is in the final phase of his political career and his cabinet colleague Satish Jarkiholi should be his ‘margdarshak’ (mentor).
These remarks come amid persistent speculation about a possible leadership change in the state, where Congress MP L R Shivarame Gowda recently urged the party high command to clarify the succession issue.
Last month, Siddaramaiah had sought to quell rumors that he could replace Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar by stating that he will complete his full five-year term. “I will continue as CM for the remaining 2.5 years. They said I would not become CM for the second time, but I did and I will continue for another 2.5 years,” he said.
Responding to Yathindra’s comments, Shivakumar did not react directly and said: “You should ask him, what can I say?” He added that the final decision on leadership changes will be taken by the Congress senior leadership.
While talks are reportedly ongoing within the party on the future leadership transition, Yathindra’s statement has reignited speculations on who can carry forward Siddaramaiah’s political legacy in Karnataka.
