Father murdered by teenagers in ‘unprovoked’ racist attack after dropping groceries at his mother’s house

Two teenage boys have been sentenced to prison following the murder of a father who was fatally stabbed in the heart during an unprovoked racist attack.
Marcus Staniforth, 17, and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached Kamran Aman, 38, after delivering food to his mother’s home in Barry, south Wales.
The pair, from Llantwit Major, subjected Mr Aman to a brutal attack, punching and kicking him.
The little boy was heard making racist abuse during and after the attack.
Staniforth then retrieved a kitchen knife from a nearby property where the youths were consuming alcohol and used it to inflict a fatal wound on Mr Aman’s heart.
Emergency services were called to the scene but Mr Aman, who was married with a young child, was pronounced dead at 1.07am on July 1 last year.
His Honor Judge Griffiths told Cardiff Crown Court he had lifted reporting restrictions on Staniforth, meaning he could now be identified, but restrictions on the 16-year-old would remain in place.
The judge sentenced both defendants at Her Majesty’s Pleasure, with Staniforth sentenced to at least 17 years’ imprisonment and the 16-year-old boy to at least 15 years’ imprisonment.
He said: “On the night between June 30 and July 1, 2025, you both killed a man you did not know.
“Kamran Aman was a dutiful family man.
“He had just taken shopping to his mother’s house.
“He was in his car, ready to return to his partner and four-year-old child when you killed him in the street.
“Not only did you end his life, you also destroyed the lives of the family he left behind.”
His Honor Judge Griffiths said the 16-year-old had drawn a picture of “where they were black” on the wall of the house he was in earlier that day.
The boy, who had taken cocaine, later saw Mr. Aman through the window while sitting in his car.
“He realized he wasn’t white,” the judge said.
“Mr. Aman caught his attention because he was black.”
The 16-year-old boy then tried to open Mr Aman’s car door and Mr Aman got out of the vehicle before being punched.
“He wanted to hurt her so bad because she wasn’t white; that was his only reason,” the judge said.
“He was racially abusing her, repeatedly calling her the n-word and the p-word.”
The judge added that Staniforth was “not a racist but he was violent” and wanted to support the 16-year-old in the attack.
Sentencing the 16-year-old, the judge told him: “You provoked a deliberate, unprovoked, sustained, violent, racist attack.
“You were old and mature enough to know that it was wrong to try to cause serious injury to a complete stranger because of their race, and you knew exactly what you were doing.”
Owen Edwards KC, prosecuting, told the court Mr Aman was stabbed outside his mother’s home in a “completely unprovoked attack”.
He said the defendants had been drinking alcohol on June 30 and the 16-year-old had been acting “erratic and aggressive” throughout the evening.
Mr. Aman was working and saw his wife and young child before going shopping to his mother, Şenaz Aman, on the night of June 30.
Mr Edwards said the 16-year-old noticed Mr Aman sitting in his car and “lost his temper”, with Staniforth telling him he would “back him up”.
“Both teenagers entered the street and the 16-year-old launched a sustained attack against Kamran, consisting of a sustained attack of punches,” he told the court.
“Marcus participated to a limited extent with punches and a hard kick.”
Mr Edwards said Staniforth then returned to a nearby property and emerged with a large kitchen knife, which he then used to stab Mr Aman.
Mr Edwards added that the 16-year-old boy used racial slurs towards Mr Aman and repeatedly called him the “p” and “n” words during and after the attack.
Both were arrested and later admitted manslaughter.
They were found guilty of murder following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
At Friday’s hearing, the court was told that both defendants had troubled childhoods and were diagnosed with ADHD.
In a victim personal statement, Mr Aman’s mother described how her son’s murder left her “sad and alone”.
His wife, Khaleela, described her husband as “kind to everyone and someone you can count on in times of need” and devoted to his family.
“Life will never be the same for us without Kamran,” he told the court.
“There is a void in our hearts that can never be filled.
“The day he died, a part of us died with him.
“There is no sentence that will ever be enough for these two children.”
Detective Inspector Kath Barry, of South Wales Police, paid tribute to Mr Aman’s family and said: “Kamran did nothing to warrant this.
“The violence was never predictable and is made all the more shocking by the disgusting racist abuse used before, during and after the incident captured on video.
“Kamran’s family’s life changed forever in a matter of minutes and they are still trying to understand how this could have happened, especially outside the home they have called home for almost 20 years.
“Despite having to listen to the excruciating details of his death, they conducted themselves with dignity and remarkable composure during the trial.”
