Father slams leftist hypocrisy after daughter was killed by illegal immigrant

As I read and watched the news in Minneapolis about the tragic shooting of a woman who allegedly tried to run over a federal agent with her vehicle, two things immediately came to mind.
The first is how the demonstrators were provoked, provoked and used by politicians for their own gain. Second – and much more personal – where was the outrage when my innocent 20-year-old daughter, Katie Abraham, was killed by an illegal alien protected and protected by Illinois’ sanctuary policies?
Katie’s killer was Julio Cucul-Bol. He was using a pseudonym. He is currently being treated for an incurable contagious infectious disease, according to court papers. But when my daughter was brutally murdered, there were no viral videos, breathtaking media panels, emotional press conferences and candlelight vigils amplified by politicians and pundits.
Where were the stories about the car Katie was riding in — stopped at a red light — being rear-ended at nearly 80 miles per hour by an illegal alien who was driving under the influence?

Where was the outrage that first responders had to open the vehicle like a can of tuna to pull my daughter’s lifeless body from the wreckage?
I was also surprised that media figures, politicians, and commentators who expressed outrage about the Minneapolis shooting had nothing to say about Katie. Nothing.
But here’s what these politicians said about the ICE attack:
CHAD WOLF, COOPER SMITH: MAYOR FREY, ICE ‘CHAOS IS NOT BREAD.’ YOU. PLEASE RESIGN
New York City Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani: “We know that when ICE agents attack immigrants, they are attacking all of us, everywhere in this country.”
Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson: “We stand in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis and all those across the country whose lives have been shattered by the reckless actions of Trump’s lawless, racist force.”
Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass: “This happened because of the cruel and racist policies of the Trump administration that released these agents.”

It is impossible to ignore hypocrisy.
The night before congressional hearings on asylum policies on June 12, 2025, my wife and I were having dinner at the same restaurant as Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz. I approached him and we had a pleasant conversation. Walz offered his condolences on Katie’s death, which I appreciated.

But the next day, while testifying in support of sanctuary policies, Walz didn’t say a word about my daughter. There is not a single piece of information that suggests Katie was brutally murdered by an illegal alien who was protected by the policies she advocated.

Instead, he declared in the wake of the Jan. 7 shooting that “the Trump administration’s dangerous, sensational operations are a threat to our public safety.”
Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker and New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul were also present at the same hearings. But my own governor, Pritzker, offered Katie nothing but indifference, silence, and disrespect. To me, that’s not compassion or humanity. This is the right of an aloof billionaire, insulated from the consequences of his policies, immune from the harm those policies cause, just like the illegal aliens he protects.
As we approach January 19, 2025, the one-year anniversary of Katie’s death, asylum policies continue to cause death and destruction. And our political leaders continue to double down.
AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT KILLED MY DAUGHTER. KATIE AND ILLINOIS BOTH GET JUSTICE
I was also surprised that media figures, politicians, and commentators who expressed outrage about the Minneapolis shooting had nothing to say about Katie. Nothing.
Katie’s death was not a random act of fate. This was the predictable outcome of policy decisions made by Illinois leaders who chose ideology over accountability.
States such as Illinois and Minnesota have effectively overridden federal immigration law through shield laws that refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement even when authorities have reliable information about an individual’s identity, background, or risks to public safety. These policies didn’t just fail my daughter and the other victims that night. They let every citizen down. And they even failed the people they recklessly imported for political gain.
This is not an immigration policy. This is not compassion. This is cruelty.
Asylum policies are often defended as “humane”, but compassion without structure is negligence. A system that invites people in while refusing to examine, guide, or hold them accountable does not elevate the vulnerable; leaves them.
This is not a sympathetic administration. This is systemic irresponsibility.
By refusing to cooperate with federal authorities, Illinois removed any guardrails that could have prevented the tragedy. There is no meaningful background check. No ID verification. No tracking. No interference; until it was too late.
EXPERT WARNED TO KILL ANTI-ICE ACTIVIST BECAUSE ‘GEORGE FLOYD 2.0’ WILL FAIL
Katie paid for this with her life.
While my family suffers, Illinois leaders refuse to pause, audit or reevaluate these policies. There is no serious effort to implement even basic measures that would protect both residents and newcomers, such as identity verification, health screenings, language services, or legal employment pathways.
Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker and New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul were also present at the same hearings. But my own governor, Pritzker, offered Katie nothing but indifference, silence, and disrespect.
Instead, authorities hide behind slogans and accuse critics of lacking compassion. Their exaggerated language inflames tensions rather than easing them. But the real issue is this chaos; It distracts, deflects and creates political cover for failed policy. I would also argue that this angers activists like 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by an ICE officer. His death is now used as an excuse against ICE, DHS, and the Trump Administration.

Where is the humanity in all this?
Policies should be evaluated by results, not intentions. A system is broken when it repeatedly produces preventable deaths, injuries, fraud, and disorder.
Illinois and other sanctuary states can and should do better. We need policies that are both legal and humane. Policies that enforce the law while providing real structure, oversight and accountability. Policies that protect communities without dehumanizing anyone.

Sacrificing people like Katie is not moral leadership. This is failure.
If our leaders do not want to face the consequences of their decisions, they should step aside. And if they refuse, citizens should demand better leadership at the ballot box.
