Australia paves way for US beef as Trump tariffs loom

Australia opened the door of more US beef imports by removing biogugural restrictions while looking for ways to reduce the coup from Donald Trump’s tariff regime.
The Federal Government announced that the decision followed a decree -year -old science -based review and announced the amendments on Thursday.
“The Albanian workers’ government will never compromise on biogugreening,” Agriculture Minister Julie Collins said.
“Australia means open and fair trade – our cattle industry has benefited significantly.
“(Department) is pleased with the strengthened control measures that the US effectively manages the biomulity risks.”
Although the US has been able to send beef to Australia since 2019, beef meat grown in Canada or Mexico before it was cut and processed in the USA was previously banned due to biogeal concerns.
One concern was that Mexico’s animal husbandry monitoring system was able to direct manufacturers to import beef from the parts of the continent with the outbreaks of disease.
However, the last announcement will bring more solid movement controls at the end of 2024 and early 2025, and after the United States will remove the ban on beef caused by Canada or Mexico.
Earlier this year, US President Canberra demanded that the beef to remove beef limitations after Australia continued to progress for tariff exemptions from the United States.
Australia is the biggest beef exporter to the USA.
According to Bendigo Bank’s mid -year agriculture appearance, Aussie beef will continue to be on the menu in the US, where the number of herds is declining due to drought and increasing costs of agricultural inputs.
Most of the Australian goods sent to the US are currently faced with 10 percent tariffs, while steel and aluminum products were slapped with a 50 percent tariff.
Trump also threatened with a pharmaceutical import tariff to the United States, one of the biggest exports of Australia to its ally.
Although Prime Minister Anthony Arbanese has not yet held a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Trump, after avoiding conflicts in the Middle East, Avustralya greatly prevented the burden of tariffs because most of its exports were only exposed to initial tax.
However, other aspects of the US-Australian relationship remain uncertain.
In accordance with the nuclear submarine agreement between Australia, the United States and the UK – in accordance with the AUKUS Security Alliance – Pentagon may be in danger after starting an investigation to examine whether the agreement is compatible with the “USA’s first” agenda.
However, Mr. Albanese confirmed that Australia has made a more planned payment as part of the agreement to buy US nuclear submarines and has increased its total to $ 1.6 billion so far.
On Wednesday, ABC television, “increasing to build submarines… Industrial capacity,” he said.
Within the scope of the $ 368 billion program, Australia will buy at least three virginia class submarines from the US in the early 2030s.
A new nuclear submarine class will be built in Adelaide, which will be delivered in the 2040s.
