FBI investigation: Stephen Curry & Draymond Green react to NBA gambling scandal

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry says he “won’t worry” about the integrity of the NBA despite the FBI’s investigation into illegal sports betting.

Miami Heat player Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups are among dozens of people arrested in a sweeping investigation that includes fraudulent, mob-related poker games.

Rozier and Billups were named in two separate indictments by federal prosecutors on Thursday. Both names deny the allegations.

Rozier, 31, is one of six people arrested for alleged betting irregularities. These include NBA players accused of faking injuries to influence gambling markets.

While most US states have legalized sports betting since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018, there are greater concerns about gambling’s impact on the integrity of American sports.

“Overall, I think everyone is very mindful of what to do, what not to do, and understands the general situation of the sport,” said Curry, who was named the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

“And it’s not just an NBA thing, it’s new territory for everybody, so I think overall we’re all very responsible.

“The integrity of the game is fine and whatever happens next, of course we just let it take its course. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it.”

Added Warriors teammate Draymond Green, who won four NBA championships with Curry: “I’m shocked. It’s a difficult moment for the people involved and a difficult moment for the league.”

“But I’m not going to sit here and say, ‘You’re all partnered with a gambling company, you’re opening a can of worms.’ That can of worms may or may not be open whether you’re partnered with gambling companies.

“Partnering with a gambling company is not going to make gambling more accessible to us. That’s what accessibility is.”
