The FBI announced Tuesday that it has increased the reward to $1 million for information on suspect Omar Alexander Cardenas, who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Cardenas, also known as “Dollar,” is accused of fatally shooting 46-year-old Jabari Dumas in the head while opening fire at a large outdoor mall in Sylmar, California, on August 15, 2019.

Authorities said he was a former member of the Pierce Street Gang and may have been affiliated with the Pacoima Van Nuys Boys/Anybody Killas.

He stands 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 240 to 300 pounds. Cardenas often wears thick prescription glasses and has at least one tattoo.

The initial reward for information leading to his whereabouts was $100,000, according to FBI Most Wanted.

Authorities said that on the day of the murder, Cardenas allegedly fired several shots from a semi-automatic pistol at Dumas, who was standing in front of Hair Icon Barber Shop.

While executing a search warrant at Cardenas’ home, authorities seized a vehicle believed to have been used in the crime and evidence linked to the murder.

A local arrest warrant was issued in Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 3, 2020, for Cardenas, who is charged locally with murder.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Cardenas from the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California on September 2, 2021, after he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Although authorities did not explain the reasoning behind such a large reward, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that Cardenas knew about his gang affiliations.

Akil Davis, Deputy Director of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, stated that Cardenas may be hiding in Mexico and said, “We will find you there.”

“Our relationship with Legat Mexico is very strong. They specialize in these types of concerns,” Davis said. “Mexico is not safe for you, Mr. Cardenas, if you are hiding there. I have full faith in this task force that they will bring you to justice.”
