FBI releases Covenant School shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale writings

Newly released FBI records related to the Covenant School shooting in Nashville include writings by shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale that shed more light on her motivations, planning and personal finances.
The FBI released more than 100 pages of Hale’s writings following the case; These included diary entries believed to date back to late 2021, handwritten notes outlining preparations for a school shooting, and references to weapons Hale intended to acquire.
In some articles, “Christian school (religion of hate)” is cited as the reason for targeting Misak School.

Hale, 28, carried out the attack at the Christian elementary school he once attended on March 27, 2023, and was shot dead by Metro Nashville Police Department officers who responded and killed six people.
The victims were identified as school staff member Katherine Koonce, 60; Cynthia Peak, 61; and Mike Hill, 61; along with students Hallie Scruggs, Evelyn Dieckhaus and William Kinney, all 9 years old.
Surveillance footage released by police after the attack showed Hale walking around the school with several firearms.
Authorities said Hale entered the building through a side entrance and walked through various parts of the school before confronting officers.

According to summaries released by authorities, Hale sent a text message to a friend shortly before the attack, describing the planned attack as a “suicide mission” and stating that the friend would likely “be aware of the news after he was dead.”
between newly released fbi The materials, seen by Fox News Digital, include a handwritten page labeled “Account Savings Registration” and a reference to federal student financial aid.
In the introduction, Hale wrote: “FAFSA [sic] Grant checks started at $2,050.86,” followed by ledger-style notes documenting payments from Nossi College of Art and Design in Nashville, where Hale was enrolled at the time.

The financial records sit alongside extensive notes on the firearms Hale planned to purchase and use in the attack.
The Tennessee Star also reported that those records may corroborate statements Hale’s parents made to Metro Nashville Police Department detectives shortly after the shooting.
Hale’s parents reportedly told investigators in 2023 that their child used federal Pell Grant money to purchase the firearms used in the attack.

Hale’s mother also reportedly told police that because Hale was over 25 and enrolled as a student, parental income no longer counted toward financial aid eligibility, allowing Hale to qualify for grant funding even though he was unemployed.
Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake previously confirmed that investigators found a manifest and hand-drawn maps in Hale’s vehicle after the shooting.

Although some of Hale’s writings have since been published, both the city police and the FBI continued to resist public records requests for the entire manifesto.
