Trump backs Cuomo and threatens to cut NYC federal funding if Mamdani wins race

President Donald Trump publicly backed Andrew Cuomo on Monday and threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Zohran Mamdani, whom he calls a “Communist,” wins the mayoral election.

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, he warned that under Mamdani’s leadership, the city would face “a complete economic and social disaster.”

“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City Mayoral Election, I am unlikely to contribute Federal Funds to my beloved first home beyond the minimum required, because as a Communist, the once-great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” He wrote this in his long article:

“The situation could get worse with a communist at the helm, and as President I do not want to send good money after bad money. It is my obligation to govern the country and it is my strong belief that if Mamdani wins, New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster.” He added, before claiming that Mamdani’s win would be a “Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster”.

The president’s post also marked his latest attempt to provide guidance to New Yorkers.

“A vote for Curtis Sliwa, who looks much better without the beret, is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump added.

“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You have to vote for him and hope he does a great job. He can do it, not Mamdani!”
