Fetterman praises former opponent Dr Oz for rooting out Medicaid fraud

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, in an interview on Wednesday, criticized his former political rival, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. He praised Mehmet Oz for Oz’s efforts to root out fraud.
Fetterman offered a positive assessment of Oz’s job performance at CMS. Asked by CBS News reporter Major Garrett“Is he doing a good job of management, Dr. Oz?”
“I think that’s totally appropriate. So, that’s what we discovered. There was a lot of fraud in Medicaid, and now let’s root it out!” Fetterman said.
“Same thing with immigration; root out all criminals and deport them. Now of course I’m very supportive of Medicaid, but I’m now rooting out any fraud,” Fetterman said. “So that’s apparently what he’s focused on and as long as it continues, yes, absolutely.”

Fetterman defeated Oz in Pennsylvania’s closely watched 2022 Senate race; this contest became one of the most notable and competitive contests of that year’s midterms. Fetterman leaned into a populist, working-class message and often mocked Oz as an unknowing celebrity from another state.
During the 2022 Senate campaign against Oz, Fetterman overcame a knock to win the race and help Democrats retain the Senate majority that year.

New York state’s Medicaid program is under extensive review by CMS, and Oz claims there is evidence of widespread fraud.
In a letter to the Governor of New York Kathy Hochul Earlier this month, Oz asked state officials 50 questions about the program and gave Hochul and his team 30 days to provide the requested information to the Trump administration.
A spokesperson for Hochul told Fox News Digital that he led efforts before the President to get rid of waste, fraud and abuse in Medicaid Donald TrumpHis return to the White House. The spokesman also said Hochul’s office will work with the administration to “identify bad actors.” However, the spokesperson also classified CMS’s investigation as politically motivated.

“Long before the Trump administration took office, Governor Hochul was leading efforts to root out waste, fraud and abuse, including sweeping CDPAP reforms that shut down hundreds of wasteful Medicaid middlemen, saving more than $2 billion for state and federal taxpayers and protecting home care for those who need it,” the spokesperson said.

“But let’s be clear about the real goal of Donald Trump and Washington Republicans: to dismantle programs that support our most vulnerable and take away health care from ordinary New Yorkers,” the spokesperson said.
