Mangaluru: An FIR has been registered against Malayalam actor Jayakrishnan and two of his friends from Kerala for allegedly harassing a taxi driver with collective insults here, police said on Saturday. They said no arrests have been made so far.
Police said the trio, comprising Jayakrishnan (50), Santosh Abraham and Vimal, booked a cab from Bejai New Road on the night of October 9. According to the complaint filed at Urwa Police Station on Friday, it was stated that taxi driver Ahmed Shafiq (32) was verbally abused in Hindi and Malayalam.
According to police, the trio booked a cab through a mobile app and gave their pick-up address as Bejai New Road in Mangaluru. When the driver contacted them through the app to verify the location, they allegedly abused him with collective insults.
A case has been registered under relevant sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to incite breach of peace) and 353(2) (statements causing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the police said, adding that further investigations were on. “Digital traces have identified them; their statements are being recorded,” a police source said.
