Fire rages on cargo ship with smoke and ‘burning plastic’ smell engulfing Hull

Firefighters take a huge fire on a cargo ship placed in Hull.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service was called to Albert Dock on Friday at around 10.00.
The service used four firefighters and an air platform. Hull Sahil Security Rescue Team and ambulance at the scene.
The fire started in the cargo warehouse of the ship where scrap metal was transported. An firefighter spokesman said all the people on board were announced.
Residents and enterprises were recommended to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the region.
A local smell of plastic is very strong, ”he said.

Firefighters tried to extinguish the fire, the council closed several ways. This includes commercial road, Kingston Retail Park, Odeon Cinema, Ice Arena, British Street, Jackson Street, Humber Dock Street and Wellington Street.
A BBC correspondent described the ship as Altay, a mass carrier built in 2006.
According to Vessel Finder, Atlay sails under the flag of Marshall Islands and has been anchored at the Albert dock since June 23.
Local residents who commented on social media, said that it “strictly smells”.
Another user said: “I smell every plug socket and computer in the workplace, I wonder if it is in my building. I hope everyone is good on my dock.”
“I just had to close all my windows. I wondered what the burning smell was,” another said.
