Firefighters called to huge blaze at industrial estate in Bangor

A massive fire broke out on an industrial site in Bangor, Northern Ireland.

Emergency services from five different fire stations were called to tackle the massive blaze near Balloo Way on Friday afternoon.

Thick gray smoke was seen rising over the Co Down city as police advised people to avoid the area and keep windows closed.

“Emergency services are currently at the scene and residents are advised to keep windows closed due to smoke,” a police spokesman said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. Sources told Belfast Live it may have been caused by a boiler explosion.

Authorities responded to reports of the fire just after 15.30.

North Down MP Alex Easton paid tribute to the emergency services who responded, writing on social media: “I would urge everyone to stay away from the Balloo industrial estate and let the PSNI and NI Fire Brigade deal with the situation.

“My thoughts are with me [them] “As they deal with this massive fire and pray that no one gets hurt.”
