Prince and Princess of Wales take to the ice as they meet Winter Olympics heroes – and visit the iconic Kelpies on day of engagements in Scotland

The Prince and Princess of Wales took to the ice today on the joint day of their royal engagement after visiting the world’s largest horse statues.

Prince William and Catherine, as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay are called, visited Scotland, making their first stop at The Kelpies in Falkirk.

The couple posed for a formal photo in front of the striking 30-metre-tall horse head sculptures, which were built from steel in 2013 and unveiled a year later.

William and Catherine later joined the British Olympic and Paralympic curling teams in Stirling ahead of the winter games and even tried their hand at the sport.

This was one of a series of events designed to highlight Scottish heritage traditions and how these traditions ‘continue to bind communities and inspire new generations’.

The organization was founded in 2019 and aims to help combat social isolation and support people affected by trauma and loss by offering the chance to learn traditional Scottish tartan weaving skills in a safe and welcoming environment.

The couple will meet Radical Weavers’ founding director Mairi Breslin to learn about the heritage of Scottish tartan weaving.

It will also be explained how tartan weaving can be a therapeutic experience and help people who have experienced trauma gain self-confidence.

The Prince and Princess will be offered the opportunity to participate in tartan weaving with others in the studio; this includes weaving a small piece of Radical Weavers’ latest project, which created the world’s longest tartan scarf.

The last meetings of the day are subject to an embargo for security reasons, but they promise to be equally lively.
