FIRs Booked Against 9 For Water Pilferage

Hyderabad: As part of the ongoing hunt against illegal water drawers, the vigilance wing of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) recorded nine cases in Red Hills on Thursday.
According to officials, nine residents in No. 4 of Red Hills seized a total of 15 unauthorized water connections without prior permission from HMWS&SB.
During the investigation, the vigilance wing of the board intercepted illegal links and registered criminal cases against all the nine persons.
Acting on the instructions of HMWS&SB director general Ashok Reddy, security officials have initiated a crackdown against illegal water connections in the city and registered criminal cases against them.
According to officials, the action was taken in the low-lying section of Red Hills under Operation and Maintenance Section No. 4, where GHMC had recently undertaken new road construction work in Seetharambagh area. Taking advantage of this situation, nine households illegally drew their water connections directly from the Water Authority’s supply pipeline, even though they already had permitted connections.
Board officials warned that anyone providing water or sewer connections without official approval would face criminal prosecution. They emphasized that unauthorized connections not only cause the Board to lose revenue, but also disrupt equitable water distribution and pose risks to public infrastructure.
